My New PFD (Personal Floatation Device)!!

OMD! My human got me a PFD in order to help me feel more comfortable in the water...she's such a great human mom, but sometimes doesn't get that I'm built for speed on land. Land only. No water. Doesn't she know I'm so sweet cause I'm made of sugar and might melt if I'm in the water???? *sigh*.

Day at the AAC Agility Nationals

So my human wasn't allowed to bring me, since there would be approximately 650 dogs competing...they wanted to keep the spectators human only...but she took some nice photos of Digger during competition.

The event was great, lots going on, and she says she can't wait to get me trained and in the ring! Aroooo! I can't wait either!

Two of my pup pals, Soshi and Digger, are competing at the AAC Agility Nationals this weekend, so let's wish them our best as they compete for the top prize!

Spotlight Sport: Agilty

With the AAC Nationals this weekend in Ontario, Agility is our Spotlight Sport!

Agility is a sport in which a handler (human) directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for time and accuracy. The course is different for every race, created by the judges at the tournament. Handler and dog must have a cohesive relationship as the dog is instructed to go through the course through the handler's signals and body language. Off leash control is a must!

It is an exciting sport to watch, and requires great teamwork. Some of the obstacles seen on an agility course are:

The A-Frame
Tunnel or Chute
Tire
Weave Poles
Jumps
Teeter

There are various games within Agility that a dog can compete in.

Standard, follows the dog through the designed course, usually 15-20 obstacles must be completed in a predetermined order.

Gamblers is a course where the team will start the course, and at designated time frame the team has a certain amount of time to complete obstacles for points. So the Handler decides which obstacles are most important to gain the most points in the time alloted.

The best part: ANY dog can compete! They have height classes, so any pup from Pomeranian to Great Dane can be an agility star!!

I'm hoping to begin my agility training this fall. I'll keep you all posted on my experiences!

Tip of the Day! Don't Forget Your Flashlight!

Don't go hiking at night with a black dog and no flashlight!

My human and her friend took me for a hike last night around 8:00pm. Still pretty light out...but deep into the woods...it. got. dark. fast.

No flashlight, I totally vanish against the black of night. She said thank goodness for the jingling tags on my collar...so she could put my leash back on me!

We did meet up with a cool German Sheppard pup named Moose! We zoomied for about 10 minutes in the dark, then we had to head back.

My Fave Five: Classic Cartoon Dogs

My buddy Finn got me thinking...he posted about the top ten fictional dogs of all time, and then posted his own. As I thought of mine..I realized they were mostly all classic cartoon dogs. Human mom has exposed me to some fine TV watching!

So here are my Fave Five Classic Cartoon Dogs:

Dino: The Flintstones dog, who every day ran over Fred when he arrived home from work. (Just like most of us do!!) He was ever watchful over Pebbles and always added great comic relief!

Muttley: First appearing in Hanna-Barbara's Wacky Races, Muttley was the sneaky sidekick of Dirk Dasterdly. While quiet on words, Muttley had that trademark laugh when the plotting to cheat during a race.

Hong Kong Phooey: "As fast as he can be!". Classic take on bumbling doggy janitor by day, and kung-fu butt kickin' crime fighter by night!

Scrappy Doo: "Puppy Power!!" The mighty mite cousin to everypup's beloved Scooby-Doo, Scrappy came onto the later shows with his bravado and skill to offset Scoob's scaredy-cat attitude. I love Scrappy.

I think of all, my top fave has to be...
Sam the Sheepdog: Brought on as a running gag with the Looney Tunes, Sam the Sheepdog would clock in on the fields, as would Ralph (aka Wyle E. Coyote). Off to work, Sam watching over the flock, and Ralph forever trying to lure one of the sheep into his clutches. But everytime, poor Ralph's plot was foiled by Sam, who just happened to be at the right place at the right time with little effort put in. Simply genius.Who are your favourite classic cartoon dogs??? Comments always welcomed!
